Pizza is the perfect delicious, casual food. As per Slice, it’s no wonder how people from America U.S. eat around 3 billion pizzas yearly. With its widespread popularity, focusing on the most delicious pizza wine pairings could appear like you need to get the message. What do you want? Sauvignon Blanc with your spicy pizza? An IPA? A shot of Tequila? Chocolate milk? You can try it.
But thinking about wine pairings is, believe it or not, fun (at least if you don’t take it too seriously), and the truth is that a wine that goes amazingly well with a veggie pizza topped with green peppers and broccoli might not be the one that sings out in harmony with a meat lover’s pepperoni-sausage-ham extravaganza (far more fat in the latter: good with red wine tannins).
Randall Restiano, the beverage director at Serra by Birreria in New York City’s Eataly, says, “Pizza and wine are among my favorite things to pair, but obviously, the toppings make a world of difference.”
15 Rules for Great Wine and Food Pairings
The guy is correct (and I know this partly because he brought around ten pies for our tasting to prove it). Here are some suggestions to improve your wine-with-pizza experience to the top of the line.
White Pizza and Sparkling Rose
The white pie is a source of contention for people. Some are enthralled by it, while others look around, wondering what is happening with tomatoes and their sauce. Whatever the case, losing the acidity of tomatoes brings to the pairing equation. The soft fruitiness and bubbly bubbles that sparkle are perfect for this. Remember to consider the effect of bubbles. They make everything taste delicious.
NV Le Monde Sparkling Pinot Nero
Champagne-style rose Pinot Noir from Italy’s Friuli region? It’s a good idea, especially when it’s as attractive as this vibrant wine.
NV Valdo Marca Oro Prosecco Rose
This refreshing, dry wine from the Italian Prosecco region is reminiscent of Provence’s roses, including strawberry, watermelon, and even a hint of strawberry.
NV Segura Viudas Cava Brut Rose
Spanish Cava is superb with a slice of Manchego and bread. And what’s white pizza if not bread covered in melty Cheese? Segura Viudas’ rose version is delightful.
NV Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rose
Who said Champagne is only suitable for extravagant food items such as caviar? It’s expensive to buy Billecart’s exquisite rose and costly, but why not give it a shot, an uncorked half-bottle of Champagne for your next date?
Bisol Jeio Cuvee Rose
Dry but not too dry. It’s fruity and has a beautiful fruity and sweet citrus. It reminds me of fresh oranges. Sparkling wines contain acidity and tartness. The pizza’s salt helps reduce the wine’s acidity and allows the fruit to come forward.
Pepperoni and Bold, Spicy Reds
There’s so much delight in those cups turned upside down pepperoni blasted with the heat on the most popular pizza type across the U.S. Also, there’s that (admittedly delicious) shiny oil that meats cured like soppressata and pepperoni release as they cook. It would help if you looked for reds with a bit of tanning oomph to offset the fat.
2017 Dow Vale Do Monfim Duoro

The first thing you’ll notice is the bite on your tongue. It has an actual tannic shape. It is an excellent match for fat.
Classic Cheese made with Pinot, Chianti, and Friends
If it’s a basic cheddar from Domino’s as well as a Margherita composed of buffalo mozzarella, Extra-virgin olive oils, and tomatoes sourced off the slopes of Mount Vesuvius, the key here is simple (and there’s not a lot of fat). Chianti Classico does work well; however, so do other moderately sized reds, such as Vino Nobile di Montepulciano or Pinot Noir from Oregon.
2018 Badia A Coltibuono Chianti Classico
Chianti Classico refers to the region and not to the style. It’s a fact that this is a perfect Chianti Classico: crisp acidity with notes of dried herb and wild berry notes. It’s an excellent weeknight meal wine.
2018 Roserock Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir
Pizza and Pinot? What’s wrong with that? The smooth tannins and sweet aromas that Pinot grapes produce within Oregon’s Willamette Valley make it a perfect match for this wine. The spicy, medium-bodied wine of Domaine Drouhin’s Roserock estate is a top option.
2017 Salcheto Vino Nobile Di Montepulciano
Just a few kilometers into the Tuscan landscape from Chianti is Chianti, located in the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appellation. Sangiovese in this region tends to be more robust and sweeter, and this wine is made from Salcheto and is produced from organically-farmed grapes -it is distinctive with a dark-colored solid fruit.
2019 Bernabeleva Camino De Navaherreros
Grenache comes from Spain’s Gredos region, which is ,located near Madrid and tends towards a soft style, with bright red-fruity flavors and a firm minerality. This one is a hit.

As we tried a selection of pizzas paired with a selection of wines from all over the globe at the F&W office, we noticed that the top. The top choice for pizzas with a veggie topping was light and (if you’re after) chill-able red. The freshness of the wine was a great match with broccoli, zucchini, arugula, and other vegetables. Light Italian reds such as Piedmont’s Freisa grapes were outstanding. However, there’s a myriad of different choices.
2019 J. Lohr Wildflower Valdiguie
Nearly no one cules Valdiguie (once also known as “Napa Gamay”) in California today. However, J. Lohr has been doing it with determination for many years. It’s moderate in alcohol and bursting with vibrant pepper and pomegranate flavors and aromas; it’s a complete pleasure.
