Roasted Garlic is one of the most delicious things you can cook in your oven. Here’s how to burn the Garlic and a few ways to use it.
Roasted Garlic is creamy, sweet, and spreadable. It’s almost dreamy. We enjoy eating the whole cloves with dinner, our favorite being this roasted poultry. Add it to soups, sauces, or mash, and spread the butter on toast. It is essential to add some to mashed potato.

How to Roast Garlic In the Oven
Roasting Garlic can be done in a few minutes. Roasting Garlic is easy. You can roast it in the oven or add it to other things that need a hot range.
We usually stick to 400 degrees F. However, if something else is baking in your oven, the Garlic will still be roasted nicely.
You can expect to wait between 40 and 70 minutes to caramelize, soften, and spreadable Garlic in a 400degF oven. It may take longer if you use a more excellent range.
Roast the Garlic in small packets, adding salt, pepper, and olive oil. We’ve made the packets using parchment paper, kitchen twine, and olive oil in our photos. But foil also works.
If we have any in the kitchen, we will add a bed of fresh thyme. The thyme will infuse the Garlic as it roasts. The kitchen smells fantastic!
Storing Roasted Garlic
To extend the shelf life of roasted Garlic, place them in a clean container for food storage and cover them with olive oil. Garlic and olive oil can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks.
You can freeze roasted Garlic as well — whether it’s in whole cloves, mashed into a puree, or covered with olive oil. The frozen Garlic can last for up to three months.
Easy Oven Roasted Garlic
Spread roasted Garlic on warm bread, or eat it straight from the cloves. Add some to sauces, creamy dips, butter, and other dishes. Roasting Garlic can be done on parchment or foil paper. You will need kitchen twine to secure parchment packets.

3 Whole Heads of Garlic
Fresh thyme sprigs, three sprigs
Olive oil one tablespoon
Black pepper and salt freshly ground
Directions
- Heat the oven to 400 degrees F.
- Prepare three squares of parchment or foil large enough to cover each head of Garlic.
- Peel the extra skin layers away, but keep enough to hold the chair together. You can now see the garlic cloves inside by cutting a quarter-inch off the top.
- Place a piece of parchment or foil on a table for each head of Garlic. Shape the thyme into a small circle and make a bed. Place a garlic head, cut side up, on top. Sprinkle with olive oil, and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- Pull the sides of parchment paper or foil around the Garlic to form a small parcel. Secure parchment with kitchen twine if using.
- Place the packets on a baking tray. Bake the Garlic cloves in the package until they are soft and light brown, about 40-70 minutes. Every so often, check on the progress of the Garlic.

- Trim the excess paper off the tops of packets if you are using parchment. This will prevent the top of the oven from being touched.
- Try other herbs, like rosemary or dill, instead of thyme.
- Store the Garlic and olive oil in the refrigerator for up to two weeks (the oil can also be used). The Garlic and oil can be stored in the fridge for up to two weeks. (The oil can also be used.)
